THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY

The Incredible Power of Art

Have you ever laid your eyes on a piece of art that is so breathtaking that it makes you feel light-headed in an instant? Well, if you have then you can see why Dorian s portrait had such an immense effect on Basil. Dorian is a handsome young man who is full of life. His portrait drawn by Basil the artist is a work to behold. Basil instantly obsesses over that particular painting.

Wilde in this book tells the story of a na ve, handsome young man who was very keen on his good looks. As a result, he sold his soul to the devil in a bid to never age at all. Unfortunately, Dorian gets to meet Lord Henry who plays the devil s advocate in misleading Dorian. Consequently, his influence on Dorian is so great and all he does is feed him with pleasure-seeking philosophies that end up ruining him.

Basil hopes to save Dorian from the indulgent life that he is being introduced to by Lord Henry. He believes in honest and living morally upright. He hopes to save Dorian from the crutches of his counterpart Lord Henry s influence but unfortunately, this led to his untimely death.

Dorian finds himself lost in immorality and tries to find his way back to the right path. Unfortunately, his well-hidden portrait is a constant reminder of how far away he has derailed from morality. In addition to this, the poison he is constantly fed by Lord Henry is not helping his situation.
