Publisher Description: THE TURN OF THE SCREW Ghost Story The book is a narration made on Christmas Eve by someone named Douglas to a group of people about ghosts. He gave detailed events of how a young, beautiful woman took her first job as a governess to two lovely children. The job was at Bly where the two orphans were living with a maid, Mrs. Grace at their uncle s vast but creepy estate which was haunted by ghosts. The narrator vividly explains how the governess agreed with the good looking uncle to handle things entirely without involving him. The governess was smitten by the child-like calm and beauty of both Miles and Flora. She developed a liking for them instantly and was overwhelmed by the need to safeguard and protect them immediately. The author displays the first encounter of the Governess with a strange man a few days after her arrival. She was to learn from Miss. Grose later that the ghost-like figure she saw looking down on her was indeed Peter Quint, a former servant at Bly who had died a year before. In another encounter, the governess would encounter a strange woman with her head on her hands which was a frightening experience for her. The woman she learned was her predecessor Miss Jessel. The apparition of both Quint and Miss Jewel keeps showing up at different times but we see that the children don t seem to mind them neither do they look frightened nor bothered by them. The governess feels a great need to protect both Miles and Flora from the ghosts who seem to want to use the kids by corrupting their minds and stealing their souls and eventually use them for their vendetta.
