Nevertheless, the Martian leaders, despite heavy opposition from business and religious organizations, decided not to do so but instituted a permanent policy of non-interference instead. Unfortunately, an enormous tragedy struck that reduced the Martians to cave dwellers. Their planet gradually turned from watery blue to barren red.
