Adams (Lou) knocked around at several jobs, making hay and doing odd jobs on the farm until he graduated high school in May 1953. Growing up on a farm, several miles from an airport, he long had an interest in planes and a secret desire to become a pilot. First, he served in the U.S. Navy with two brothers who were with him on the U.S.S. Tarawa (CVS-40). William Bert was a fellow Hospital Corpsman, and Charles Edward was a Machinist Mate.Lou finally learned to fly a T-34B while in the Navy at Kenitra, Morocco and logged several hours as a pilot in an Aero Club. He got his IFR Rating years later at Hogan's Field in Hamilton, Ohio, near Cincinnati. |
