Publisher Description:

Every DM wants to craft a unique, enjoyable experience for their players. To do so requires a depth of knowledge of the campaign itself, and a team of NPCs that will help the players navigate their way through the story. And let's face it: every campaign has supportive NPCs. Sooner or later, an NPC within a city or tavern or perched high up in that tree house above the forested road has to relate pertinent information to the players who will then use that information to make decisions.

As a DM, you must have thoroughly developed backstories for your NPCs if you want to create a memorable experience for your players. You can spend hours designing colorful maps, intricate puzzles and traps, and even orchestrate entertaining encounters that quickly devolve into memorable, all-out-brawls, but unless you have great NPCs to tell your story, the entire campaign is going to come across as flat, or - in a worst case scenario - boring.

This book provides 13 characters with highly detailed backstories. They will help you tell a fantastic story, YOUR story. The best part is you don't have to spend hours fabricating an interesting character. They're right here, in this book, ready to go. Inside you'll find in-depth backstories on warriors, thieves, an alchemist, a renowned hunter, spiritual mediums and an ageless monster hidden in plain sight.

You need fantastic supporting characters if you want to tell a fantastic story. Here's 13 of them, ready for your immediate use. Buy 13 Character Backstories today and instantly elevate your players level of game enjoyment. Trust me, they'll thank you for introducing these characters to them.

People often ask, "How do you create such wonderful characters?" My answer usually confuses them, as I will say, "I don't. The characters come to me and tell me their stories."

If I close my eyes and clear my mind, at least one character will appear in my imagination (usually it's two or three). And once a character has appeared in my mind, all I need to do is give this individual a little attention and he or she will start revealing every aspect of their life to me. The more I focus on this person, the more details I get. It's always been that way. I've been able to generate highly detailed characters in practically any genre since I was a kid. I never thought much of this ability as I always assumed everyone's imagination worked in the same way.

I think it's important to note that I don't have any control over the characters in my books. I don't "craft" them in any specific manner, nor can I force them to be something they are not. I just watch and listen as they reveal their life history to me. Then I write about them.

The characters in 13 Character Backstories were generated in the above described manner. I listened while they told their life story, and then I wrote about them. These characters are incredibly unique. All of them have their quirks, strengths and weaknesses. And if you let them, I'm sure they will come alive within your imagination, and maybe you'll learn a thing or two about them that even I don't know.
