Publisher Description:
The last book in the Canadian geology series discusses the Yukon Territory which consists of the westernmost part of the Northwest Territories. The Yukon Territory addresses the Precambrian, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic geologic history, very similar to British Columbia. The Yukon Territory discussion begins with a geological overview of the different terranes from Early to Late Proterozoic ending with the breakup of Rodinia. Paleozoic geology is represented by sedimentary cover occurring throughout the erathem including the Sauk sequence, Bear Rock, and Hume-Dawson sequences. The Carboniferous and Permian Periods finish out the Paleozoic era discussion. The Mesozoic Era focuses mostly on the northern basins and tectonic and tectono-stratigraphic elements. A brief discussion follows on the Mesozoic-Cenozoic boundary before discussing the Tertiary Period. Many publications available through the Geological Survey of Canada were used to extract geologic information contained in this book.
