Publisher Description:
Gen. John Hunt Morgan's regiment was a hand-picked unit of approximately 2200 men.

It was around the first of July, 1863 when John Hunt Morgan, with approximately 2400 hand-picked men again entered Kentucky at Burkesville to begin the "Great Raid." Gen. Basil Duke's account states that the men were chosen from those under Morgan's Command and also from Johnson's. Based on the number of men at his disposal, approximately 1 out of every 10 were chosen.

Morgan's Brigade was active in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio. Many were captured in the conflict at Buffington Island on July 19, 1863 and the remaining part at New Lisbon on July 26, 1863.
