"There are some books that LIVE," she mused. "They are young with us, and they grow old with us."

― Virginia Woolf, Night and Day

Night and Day is a novel by Virginia Woolf that contrasts the daily lives and romantic attachments of Katharine Hilbery and Mary Datchet.

Katherine Hilbery is a granddaughter of a famous poet, but her interest is in mathematics and astronomy. The privileged existence can be suffocating to her.

Mary Datchet, on the other hand, is a suffrage activist. She believes she does not need a man to feel fulfilled.

The two met in a meeting of literary scholars through Mary's close friend Ralph-who is infatuated with Katherine. Ralph and Mary continue to spend time together. However, Mary starts to realizes that she is falling in love with Ralph and wonders if she would prefer marriage to work, after all.

Meanwhile, Katherine becomes engaged to a wealthy poet who is approved by her family. But she eventually realizes that she is in love with Ralph.

As Mary and Katherine cross paths, each woman becomes interested in the lifestyle of the other.

Will the two women be able to have a happy ending?
