Publisher Description:
Agnes hummed a tune as she washed the dishes. She was in a joyous mood that morning because it was her convocation day. She had a lot of preparations to make; as she turned to check the food on the gas cooker, she heard a movement behind and reflexively turned to behold Thelma. She stood transfixed by the elegance and prettiness of her missing best friend, both stood, staring at each other, probably lost for words. "I've come to help you, Agnes." Thelma who found her voice first said, still standing at the same spot."Thelma, could it be you?" Agnes gasped in bewilderment; the pot cover she was holding fell from her hands."What is the matter? Aren't you happy to see me?""Where have you been and why did you run away?""I didn't run away," Thelma replied, not moving an inch."Oh, Thelma, you have a lot of explanations to give and above all, I've missed you so much." She rushed to embrace her, but Thelma swiftly dodged with askance, "I'm sorry, Agnes, you can't come closer to me." She warned, knitting her brows in disapproval. I don't belong to your world again."Agnes who was somehow embarrassed frowned and regarded her critically, she was intrigued by Thelma's strange attitude, "What do you mean by you don't belong to my world again?" she asked worriedly, "You are here now and we are in the world so what do you mean?" she muttered fearfully when Thelma didn't respond; "You said you didn't run away, why haven't we seen you all these while?""My going away wasn't of my own making..." she began but stopped midway and looked around as if searching for something before turning back to Agnes with a worried and sad expression, "I don't have much time, I've come to bid you farewell forever.""Forever? Thelma where have you been all this while, please tell me, who took you away? And what do you mean by all these riddles? You are scaring me!" Agnes cried passionately kneeling before her friend, "I have grown to love you like my own blood; please, open up to me!"Thelma's eyes had become glassy as she looked at Agnes's agonizing and pitiable figure before her. "I don't want to open old wounds, my dear sister, please let bygones be bygones. What I just want to let you know is that I adore you as my blood also; I will never forget your good deeds in my life. I accepted my destiny, so no need to apportion blame. Please, continue to be good because it pays. You are going to meet a nice and young gentleman who will make a good husband to you and father for your children, you will be happy in life. Your family will be wealthy."There was a sudden brightness from the ceiling which parted with a gushing of wind and Axus suddenly swooped down from the sky and stood beside Thelma and held her, "It is time to go, dear."Agnes began to shake feverishly, as she gaped in astonishment at the duo who hugged each other affectionately, "What is happening? Thelma, do you know Isabella? Who are you?"They stood and looked at Agnes for some seconds while sad tears coursed down Thelma's eyes, "Farewell, good friend," She said as they swooped into the air, the ceiling parted again for them in the full gaze of Agnes who stood transfixed with mouth agape and confusion...She awoke with a jolt, wiped her face many times to be sure if she had dreamed or it was real. She consulted her watch which was beside her bed; it was a quarter to three in the morning. She began to reflect on the dream as she lay back on the bed, "Was that a dream or vision?" she asked herself, "Do I know Thelma? What is the relationship between Isabella and Thelma? Perhaps it was a figment of my imagination. Dreams could be foolish." She concluded wearily as she could not found answers.
