Publisher Description: It is obvious, that since the introduction of the official category "people with a migration background", almost every fifth person in Germany themselves or a parent has cross-border migration experience. What are the implications? What about their opportunities in political participation? Is it only migration background, or is gender also an important factor to be examined in this context? The volume provides new results on this issue and takes an intersectional perspective. Quantitative and qualitative results are presented on political participation and representation of migrants in Germany. Barriers and opportunities on political participation are analysed and discussed in reference to the municipal level. The focus is on city councils, councils of foreigners, respectively integration councils. The questions to be asked and examined will be about the causes and consequences of representation deficiencies, political socialization and career opportunities, and also about ways of equal political participation. |
