In 1886, Colonel Hernan Moreno, an Intelligence Officer in the Peruvian Army is captured on the border with Ecuador during a border dispute. He, his faithful Sargent Garcia and three of his wounded are taken to the fortified hacienda of San Rafael near the town of Banos de Aqua Santa in Ecuador. Whilst there he is able to smuggle letters home. Each letter tells a different story about many places, people and their customs of South America and the final letter reaches a climax in the lives of all at San Rafael. They include:

Contributor Bio(s): Moreno Ruiz, Colonel Hernan Eduardo: - About the Author This is a work of fiction and Colonel Hernán Eduardo Moreno Ruiz is, like this story also fictional, the nom de plume of compiler, Dr. Peter Terence Scott. Raised and educated in Sydney, Australia, he had a successful career of over forty years in high schools and universities. Studying part time, he achieved a Bachelor Degree and two Masters Degrees in Science (Geology) and Educational Administration and later a Doctorate in Education. He too volunteered for the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War in support of his friends and was commissioned into the infantry. Now retired, he and his wife have traveled extensively, especially to South America to visit his daughter-in-law's family in Puno, Peru. He now lives in Brisbane, Australia with his wife and their married sons and five grandchildren.
