| Publisher Description: English summary: The year 2012 marked the 750th anniversary of the founding of the Augustinian Monastery in Tubingen, which has housed the Herzogliches Stift - known today as the Evangelisches Stift, or Protestant School of Theology - since 1547. A specialist conference examined the history of this important academic institution and produced new research contributions, which are now collected in this volume. Essays on the history of the school stand alongside those on holders of the scholarship. The significance for the histories of philosophy, theology and literature are likewise illuminated. The transfer of the institution to the church after 1918, the time of National Socialism, and the introduction of the Stift's still valid system of regulation provide insight into the huge changes it has faced during the twentieth century.
