Publisher Description:
Thomas Karl Reiner, a Hungarian manufacturing executive and engineering scientist, lived through the Holocaust, Second World War, and the Hungarian Revolution. He finally escaped to the United States where he was able to achieve his dreams of contributing his skills to ground breaking projects. Finding My Way To Freedom features a daredevil story of tragedy, triumph, and inspiration that takes us from early age to adulthood. Throughout Reiner's exciting life, he never gave up or despaired. He used his ingenuity and intellect to escape and then excel. In 1968 Thomas Karl Reiner became Chief Engineer for Fairchild Camera Space and Defence Vision, and in 1974 he started and managed several companies with his friend Peter Grosz. He was president of Renmark Pacific Corporation, GRW, and Kinetron. He helped build the Satellite Attitude Control Space Simulator for NASA. Probably the pinnacle of his achievement was the Assembly Tower for the Hubble Telescope, one of the most versatile and well-known telescopes ever built. As an engineer and builder, he was always fascinated with creating new things. Through his long career, he was able to patent a hydraulic jacking system that raised the Freemont Street Bridge in one piece. He built an air cargo handling and weighing system for the US Air Force and major airlines and the US Air Force. He also created a latch system for tug boats and barges.
