The intent of Breach of Trust is to serve individuals who have felt harmed by sexual exploitation, hope to help these people, and aim to prevent further sexual misconduct. For these purposes, it is an excellent resource that I highly recommend. . . . It is an important contribution to the field." --Sherral Austin in The Journal of Sex Research "This is a useful book that comprehensively maps out the extent of the problem of abuse of vulnerable individuals by those in authority. . . . There is much worth reading in this book, including the tentative typology of professional perpetrators described by John C. Gonsiorek in his chapter on assessment for rehabilitation of exploitative health care professionals and clergy, sexual contact in fiduciary (lawyer-client) relationships, and boundary challenges when both therapist and client are gay males. This is an interesting book, recommended particularly for professionals working with vulnerable client groups and for those responsible for training doctors, therapists of all types, and clergy." --Eileen Vizard in British Journal of Psychiatry "This book is well edited and easy to read. The essays are by very competent people from various backgrounds, with various specializations. Reading them is perhaps even more satisfying than having listened to the presentations at the conference on which they are based. Most essays will interest the general reader as well as researchers and practitioners." --Sylvester P. Theisen in The ISTI (InterfaithSexual Trauma Institute) Sun "Breach of Trust is an authoritative and comprehensive book that provides information and research on the problem of sexual abuse an sexual exploitation by health care professionals and the clergy." --Journal of Psych & Mental Health Nursing "With contributions from a number of experts in the field, this imposing volume provides up-to-date information on this sensitive and complex issue. For counselling psychologists with little knowledge of this topic, this book is a good starting point; for those who are working with clients who have been sexually exploited by a previous therapist it is essential reading." --Kasia Szymanska in British Psychological

Publisher Description:
The 1980s heralded the beginning of an awareness of sexual exploitation of clients by health care professionals and clergy. The focus then was on raising consciousness about the problem. This volume reflects the concerns of the 1990s: it explores the subject in greater depth, develops theoretical ties to other areas and proposes sophisticated solutions.

Following an introductory overview, Breach of Trust focuses on victims. Contributions include victims′ first-hand accounts and discussions of support and recovery groups and individual therapy for both male and female victims and their families. The contributors then examine perpetrators: they describe innovative work being undertaken to understand the characteristics
