After having focused on the legal situation of teachers and students the volume at hand deals with the legal situation of parents. Their situation is characterized by tensions between the edu-cational mandate of schools and the parents' right of education both equally anchored in the German Constitution. Practical problems occurring from these tensions on a day-to-day basis are obvious and have been dealt with during the conference: What are the limits of compulsory school attendance?
