Publisher Description: This collection of studies is unified by two main themes of Professor John Knox's own work. It is therefore in two parts: the first - 'Problems of History and Faith' - deals with questions related to the historicity of Jesus Christ, his humanity, and his place as the turning-point of history for the Christian. The second part: ' Chapters in Paul's Life and Thought' considers questions of Pauline interpretation. The division is functional only, for a concern with the nature of history, memory and the Christian community runs through the whole book. The editors have aimed to produce a coherent volume, which in places comments on Knox's own thought, and which also shows his influence at work in the minds of colleagues and former pupils. Contributors include both systematic theologians and New Testament scholars, reflecting the fact that Knox's work has not only stimulated New Testament specialists, but also has a far-reaching significance for contemporary theology. |
