Publisher Description:
Adolescents Use of the Internet If the current trend continues, the use of computer technologies and the Internet will increase for teaching and education. It is urgent that researchers study computer and Internet deviance. This book explores middle and high school students' perceptions of deviant behavior when using computers and the Internet. Deviant behaviors are a genuine concern since our society is rapidly moving from a typographic culture to a post-typographic culture (Provenzo, Brett and McCloskey, 1999). Most of the students have used some form of technology since the age of two. Results of this study revealed that the majority of students' indicated they perceive their behavior as being not deviant when using computers and the Internet. Contrarily, students indicated they perceive the behavior of their peers to more deviant than theirs when using computers and the Internet. This is not uncommon, since most long-term computer users do not realize that their activities online can be deviant. For this reason, it is imperative that parents, teachers, and school administrators remain vigilant.
