Publisher Description: Ethanol has been established as a commendable adjutant of gasoline to meet the constraints of the contemporary scenario of ever decreasing fuel resources and constantly increasing emission legislations. Though ethanol as a dual fuel for diesel emissions promises commendable emission reduction potential, performance indices such as BSFC, thermal efficiency are penalized arising out of its low calorific value, immiscibility and very low cetane number. In this present study, CNG enrichment for a broad range of diesohol blends was carried out to investigate performance and combustion improvement, along with the possibility of retaining the trait of emission reduction. These tests were carried out on an existing DI diesel engine at various engine load conditions with port injection of CNG.The present study has been able to portray the efficacy of CNG and ethanol when used in conjunction to usher in the benefits of reduced pollutant formation without unacceptable penalization of performance indices as comparable to conventional diesel operation and thus opens up avenues for greater in-depth exploration of the complimentary use of CNG and ethanol in diesel engines |
