Publisher Description: Flooding is a common phenomena in the Philippines and a small town of the country named Angono is frequently flooded. Data analysed from 1960- 2008 shows that the frequency of flooding in the Philippines is increasing rapidly with the change in climate. With the increment of flooding, the magnitude, damages and extent of flooding is also spreading. Children and old people are mostly exposed to the flooding and similarly adversely impacted by the hazard. Marginalized people were found more affected than the rich and middle class.Poor are mostly victimized due to their location of houses in the unprotected areas. The elevation of the affected area is 0-5% which is also another cause of flooding as the lake water get swell for heavy rainfall. Deterioration of environment and health and sanitation infrastructure due to flooding give rise to outbreak of different waterborne diseases in the affected area. Thus the out come of the research would be helpful for the planners and decision makers to formulate a sustainable plan for disaster management. |
