Publisher Description: Personal narratives in the veterans' own words help bring history to life. "I remember being in Holland just before Christmas... The officer stood up and asked the Germans to surrender, and they shot him right on the spot... Eventually, we made our way to the farmhouse, and a parcel had arrived addressed to this man who had just been killed. It was from his wife... We opened it up and there was a small note there. 'My Dear Darling, here is something to keep you nice and warm.' Here was a sweater she had knitted." - Harv Dewey |
