Publisher Description: This report covers the continuing political and economic crisis in Egypt. It is based on a conference held in Williamsburg, VA, and Washington, DC, in April 2013, at which American and Egyptian leaders assessed the prospects for resolving the country's problems and establishing a dialog between Islamist politicians and their opponents. The conference, the first in the new Williamsburg-CSIS Global Forum, is the only high-level gathering to have represented such a wide range of different political viewpoints, inside or outside Egypt, since the fall of President Hosni Mubarak in 2011. The discussions are analyzed in the context of the latest developments in Egypt, including the intervention of the armed forces in July 2013. |
